A.R. Graffiti
As a part of a series of experiments with augmented reality, I created a set of 3d objects and videos centered in the topic of media and technology, and how the line between our real and digital persona is everyday more overlapped.
The art direction of every piece explores various motifs from retro-futurism, digital interfaces and social media. I utilized messages that embody different angles of our digital lives like: “BRB IRL”, “Please the Algorithm”, and “AR Killed the Reality Star”. Developed a custom gradient and color palette with vivid colors that are usually only found on digital environments. The project functions as a kind of A.R. graffiti that uses a set of tags placed around the city that can only reveal the full message and 3d object through an app, these can be seen at different angles and are reactive to environment light, which make them feel more “real”. For the project I designed the target images(tags) following best practices for optimal camera detection, sketched the 3d objects and then modeled and animated them on C4D; the APK was developed using Unity and the Vuforia platform to make the app available on a mobile phone.
Face Filters
Development of facebook filters. Images and material textures are created separately and then applied to a mask that is linked to a face tracker.
Projection Mapping
Digital projection mapping experiment with interactivity. 3D Model made in SketchUp and rendered in Kerkythea, then mapped in Resolume Arena to add animation on the surfaces and also interactivity via a connected game controller. This type of interaction proves very useful to create memorable experiences with people when applied on expositions, people not only get amused by the images but also gets to participate in the process, creating a stronger connection.
360 Video
As a part of the MNG R.V. 2.1 Workshop, a team of creatives and I learned the ins and outs of 360 video production and V.R. video consumption, we were also given the task of creating a video in 1 week. Since we were too thrilled with the new media format we explore and developed 2 videos in the same time frame. A first person perspective of a BMX rider that explores the improved empathy that is possible with V.R. technology when you set the viewer at the center stage; secondly, a purely audiovisual experience with a music producer at the center of his studio, with added projections and a bit of stage design to create a more mesmerizing experience.
